Painted for my Hawkes Bay 2008 exhibition. After my ‘The City’ print of Palmerston North was such a popular success, I decided to paint Hastings in the same style, both being inland cities. My point of difference was that every single building in this Hastings image is either Spanish Mission or Art Deco and of course the quality of my painting is far better with five years more experience. However this image has not experience the same popularity. I’m not sure if it just doesn’t have the same magic, or if Hastings people are not as fond of their city as Palmestonians. Perhaps it’s a lack of marketing. I think it’s a great painting. The original has that wow factor that you get from my acrylics.
